For conventional lathes, Miranda's brazed carbide tipped turning tools cover eight ISO configurations: ISO 1 (110) for bar turning, ISO 2 (111) for cranked turning and facing, ISO 3 (123) for cranked finishing, plus ISO 5 through 9 for boring, parting, and threading. Shanks run from 10x10mm up to 40x40mm, with a 60x40mm option for heavy work, in both Right Hand and Left Hand. Carbide grades follow the job: P20, P30, and P40 for steel and cast steel; K05, K10, and K20 for cast iron and non-ferrous metals. Tips conform to ISO 5421 / IS 2921. Frequently Asked Questions: Carbide Tipped Turning Tools

P20 is for finish turning of steel at higher speeds. It's harder but more brittle. P30 is the general-purpose grade for steel, with a good balance of hardness and toughness for most turning. P40 is the toughest P-grade, best for interrupted cuts and rough turning. For cast iron, use K10 (general purpose) or K20 (heavy roughing with interrupted cuts). K05 is for finish turning of cast iron and non-ferrous metals at high speeds. If in doubt, start with P30 for steel and K10 for cast iron.
